Lina and Dan’s 10th Anniversary | Discovery Park
This is a change of pace from my wedding work, but I wanted to take some time to really write down some reflections. It’s going to be a longer post, so please bear with me. For those of you who’ve been following my photography over the years, this couple might look familiar. I’ve had the absolute honor and privilege to photograph their wedding back in August 2014. One year later, Lina and Dan reached back out to me and mentioned that she was inspired by her dad & mom to take anniversary photos over the years — documenting the growth and changes year over year. We started this yearly tradition, and here we are 10 years later.
We started this annual photo shoot at Discovery Park, so that location holds a special place for them. Over the past decade, we’ve captured memories in so many places: Georgetown/SODO, Interbay, Volunteer Park, Juanita Park in Kirkland (after escaping an epic mosquito attack near a marsh in Bellevue), West Seattle, Burien, and South Seattle.
Life unfolding: Hair style changes, attire changes, but more notably, it was so special to see the addition of their daughter and more recently, the birth of their son.
As a photographer, this couple is a reminder of why this art form is incredibly meaningful. Year over year, you see life unfolding through the images. The smiles, the intricacies. The photos depict the ups and downs, the gains and loss. You look back and think, “Wow, this was 2015…this was 2016…” and on and on. And this is the reason why I continue to strive for timeless and true moments in taking photos, because these memories and emotions are what matter most in photography.
Thank you Lina and Dan for integrating me into your lives in this special way — congratulations for 10 years!
