Carmen and Erik: Engagement Session at Discovery Park

I felt honored and excited when Erik contacted me to shoot his engagement and upcoming wedding in 2016. Erik and I have been friends for a few years and have shared some hilarious moments together. Needless to say, working with him and Carmen on their engagement set @ Discovery Park was as comfortable as it gets.Let's start with the weather. The timing of a November engagement session in the Pacific Northwest presents the challenge of photographing in cold and rainy conditions. I usually worry about my clients getting rained on and being exposed to the low temperature. Not that I don't care about Carmen and Erik's well being, but these two are straight up troopers! A little rain and chill barely affects Erik, as he's used to hiking in unpredictable weather in the Northwest. I actually asked them how they felt about shooting in the rain. They replied, "Well, this is representative of our personalities, so it's kind of fitting." There's definitely a Northwest vibe to them and I feel the photos reflect it. Even with pounding rain and windy, Erik and Carmen interacted naturally and enjoyed the elements. In several of the photos below, you'll notice the rain coming down on them. I actually love the way it looks, as it brings out an unique image, almost like a painting. Our engagement session started with some cover for their heads, then we moved on to using an umbrella, and ended with simply ditching all cover and toughing out the rest of the set in the rain. Erik and Carmen, you both did a great job and I can't wait to shoot your wedding next year.
